Flat Lens Strip Installation 1. Test Fitting. Remove your old lenses (if applicable) and test fit your new flat lens strip by placing it inside your helmet with clips already in place. Push the flat lens strip against the inside face of the helmet to match the curvature of the helmet. Make sure the edges of the flat lens strip extend beyond the eye holes, then mark the clip placement with a pencil. Note: It is both natural and beneficial for there to some small gaps where air can circulate to fight against fogging...the lenses should NOT create an air-tight seal on the eye holes!
2. Gluing the Clips. Remove the clips from the flat lens strip (to avoid getting glue on the lens) and glue into position on each side of the eye holes using a strong adhesive like Devcon Plastic Welder, Goop or an epoxy. It will probably hold with hot glue, but I prefer something more solid! Make sure to glue the clips facing the right direction so that they grab the lens. Allow proper drying time before putting the flat lens strip in place.
3. Done! The tension of the lens curvature along with the two spring clips hold the flat lens strip in place. Lens cleaning is easy by simply removing the entire flat lens strip. If your lenses get scratched, you can easily replace with a new one by tracing your old shape onto a welder's faceshield replacement or ordering a pre-cut replacement from me. If you decide you want a different color tint or a darker shade, it's simple to make the change. See this image which shows how the actual screen used helmets also used a single-piece lens technique (although not as nice as ours!). TK-899's Flat Lens Strip Kit comes complete with a pre-cut welder's faceshield lens that fits all Stormtrooper, TIE Pilot, AT-AT Driver helmets as well as 2 spring-clips. You only need to provide the glue for the clips. $22 including International First Class shipping (about 6-10 days). |
